Asia's largest coal CCUS project successfully produces liquid CO2

On May 27, the carbon capture and resource utilization research and demonstration project, with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons, in the Jiangsu Taizhou branch of CHN Energy successfully produced liquid carbon dioxide by liquefying carbon dioxide gas with a purity of more than 99.5% under the condition of below minus 20 degrees Celsius and about 2.2 MPa. The liquid carbon dioxide was then transported to the storage tank through the pipeline, realizing the whole process of carbon dioxide capture, compression, liquefaction and storage.

It is Asia’s largest carbon capture and utilization demonstration project in a coal-fired power plant. Leveraging China’s leading high-performance absorbent with independent intellectual property rights, the project independently designed a 500,000-ton carbon capture process package, and made breakthroughs in high-performance absorption tower packing and high-efficiency amine recovery. The successful production of liquid carbon dioxide promoted the development of coal-fired power CCUS from scientific and technological demonstration research to industrialized, clustered development, which combines social, ecological environment and economic benefits, and plays an exemplary role in realizing the clean and low-carbon energy transformation of coal-fired power enterprises.
