United Airlines and Heirloom Partner to Advance Net Zero Aviation with Direct Air Capture

Heirloom announced an agreement with the United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight FundSM, granting the airline the right to purchase up to 500,000 tons of carbon dioxide removal (CDR). This captured CO₂ will be used either for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production or for permanent underground storage.

Last year, Heirloom and partners were notified of selection by the Department of Energy to negotiate for funding for two earlier stage DAC Hubs in Illinois and Florida. Heirloom shared that the projects have been awarded a combined total of $5.7 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Direct Air Capture (DAC) provider Heirloom announced an investment in Louisiana that will bring two DAC facilities, with a combined ability to remove nearly 320,000 tons of CO2 per year, to the northwestern part of the state.

Heirloom Carbon recently unveiled a new facility that can capture up to 1,000 tons of CO2 per year, which will be sent for centuries-long storage in concrete to fulfill commercial removal purchases.

Microsoft has signed a long term contract to purchase up to 315,000 metric tons of CO2 removal over a multi-year period from Heirloom in one of the largest carbon dioxide removal deals to-date.
