MODEC signs joint development agreement with Eld Energy on SOFC and CO₂ capture system for FPSOs

MODEC has signed a joint development agreement with Eld Energy to scale up an integrated SOFC and CO₂ capture system for FPSOs, targeting a 120-kW prototype with onshore testing in 2027 and offshore demonstration from 2028.

MODEC has received Approval in Principle from the American Bureau of Shipping for its Floating Storage and Injection Unit (FSIU), designed to handle liquid CO₂ at sea. The unit can receive, store, and inject up to 10 million tonnes of CO₂ annually into subsea reservoirs, eliminating the need for onshore storage and pipelines.

MODEC, Inc. has entered into a Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) contract with SAMSUNG E&A for an offshore carbon capture pilot project, selecting Carbon Clean’s modular CycloneCC technology. The study envisages the installation of a carbon capture module on a MODEC Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading vessel as a pilot.
