Vallourec and Geostock have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen their collaboration on developing infrastructure needed to support the energy transition, with a particular focus on hydrogen storage and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).

The collaboration is centered on hydrogen storage, where the two companies offer complementary products and services across the green hydrogen value chain. Vallourec’s Delphy turnkey storage system is designed to store up to 100 metric tons of hydrogen under high safety standards, while Geostock’s mined lined rock cavern solutions are intended for larger-scale storage capacities exceeding 500 metric tons.

The agreement also leverages the companies’ respective industrial expertise. Geostock’s experience in subsurface development is expected to support installation and associated civil engineering work for Vallourec’s Delphy system. In parallel, the companies plan to cooperate on well architecture and tubular solutions for both hydrogen storage and CCUS applications.

Under the partnership, Vallourec and Geostock will share technical expertise, research and development findings, and engineering solutions to design wells capable of operating under the demanding conditions associated with subsurface hydrogen storage and carbon dioxide injection. Vallourec’s tubular products, which have undergone extensive testing, are intended to support the deployment of safe and high-performance underground storage infrastructure for Geostock and its customers.

Vallourec said the agreement aligns with its broader strategy of partnering with key technology providers and industry leaders in the new energies sector to address industrial, environmental and economic challenges associated with the energy transition.

He said the collaboration is intended to accelerate development of infrastructure required to support low-carbon energy value chains in hydrogen storage and CCUS.

Pascal Baylocq, CEO of Geostock, said the partnership expands the company’s range of underground hydrogen storage solutions, particularly in hard rock formations. He said Vallourec’s expertise in metallic materials and research capabilities will support Geostock’s work across multiple underground storage techniques, including salt caverns, hard rock and porous media.
