The Zero Emissions Platform (ZEP) announced it has changed its name to Carbon Management Europe, marking a shift intended to better reflect the organization’s expanded scope and role in advancing industrial carbon management across the European Union.

The rebranding comes as the EU moves forward with major climate legislation, including revisions to the Emissions Trading System and development of carbon dioxide infrastructure frameworks that are expected to shape the pace of decarbonization for decades.

Founded in 2006 with a focus on zero-emissions fossil fuel power plants, the organization said its previous name no longer captured its full range of activities. Its work now spans the entire carbon management value chain, including carbon capture, transport, storage, utilization and carbon dioxide removal.

Leaders said the new name aligns with European Commission terminology and strengthens the group’s ability to engage policymakers, industry and other stakeholders at a critical time for climate policy.

“The past two decades have seen our work expand across the full carbon management value chain,” said Eve Tamme, chair of Carbon Management Europe. “The new name reflects this reality and supports our ability to scale deployment.”

The organization emphasized that its mission, governance and core activities remain unchanged. It will continue to provide science-based advice to EU institutions and governments to support climate neutrality goals.

Alongside the name change, Carbon Management Europe launched a redesigned website and plans to host a stakeholder event in Brussels on June 9, bringing together representatives from industry, policy, research and civil society.

Officials said the updated identity positions the group to play a stronger role as Europe accelerates efforts to deploy carbon management technologies.
