The International CCS Knowledge Centre released a new report to help companies across heavy-emitting industries understand the key federal and provincial supports that are in place or proposed for CCUS projects in Alberta, Canada.Navigating the ever-growing emissions reduction programs and policies being put forth by different levels of government can be complex, but it has a direct impact on the overall cost and revenue-generating opportunities for each project.The report “CCUS and Business Certainty” was developed in partnership with Emissions Reduction Alberta to map existing and proposed federal and provincial incentives such as the proposed federal CCUS investment tax credit, carbon contracts for difference, Alberta carbon credits and considerations related to federal clean fuel regulations and clean electricity regulations. It also identifies gaps, challenges and opportunities for accessing incentives between industrial sectors.Vice-President of Policy, Regulatory and Stakeholder Relations Beth (Hardy) Valiaho, who led the work, stated:“Canada’s leadership in some of the world’s first large-scale CCUS projects, such as SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Unit 3 CCS facility and Shell’s Quest CCS project, is a direct result of the significant government support that helped bring them to life.
