The Carbon Removers, a trailblazing Scottish ClimateTech business, announced a landmark agreement on December 10th to permanently sequester 50,000 tons of CO₂ per year in a depleted oil field, 1,800 meters beneath the North Sea seabed. This partnership is part of the EU’s first operational CO₂ storage facility, Project Greensand Future, operated by INEOS.Greensand Future is a critical initiative designed to safely capture and store up to 400,000 tons of CO₂ annually by 2025, with the capacity to scale up to 8 million tons per year in the future.Richard Nimmons, CEO of The Carbon Removers, stated:“The North Sea holds enormous potential to help Europe achieve its Net Zero goals.
