The Carbon Removers, a trailblazing Scottish ClimateTech business, announced a landmark agreement on December 10th to permanently sequester 50,000 tons of CO₂ per year in a depleted oil field, 1,800 meters beneath the North Sea seabed. This partnership is part of the EU’s first operational CO₂ storage facility, Project Greensand Future, operated by INEOS.

Greensand Future is a critical initiative designed to safely capture and store up to 400,000 tons of CO₂ annually by 2025, with the capacity to scale up to 8 million tons per year in the future.

This agreement significantly enhances The Carbon Removers’ ability to deliver high-quality, permanent carbon removal credits, supporting companies across Europe in meeting decarbonisation targets and accelerating progress toward a Net Zero future.

The announcement follows an inspiring visit by Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, to The Carbon Removers’ Dumfries facility on December 9th. Swinney remarked:
